My career
in films began with Satyajit
Ray's Apur Sansar. Since
then, it's been a long journey
for me. I have worked with
many directors. I learnt
the craft of acting and
improvement came naturally.
The inner secrets of film-making
and acting became clearer
to me. But, in those days,
the film-makers, actors,
technicians- all of us felt
the need for some guidance,
which would help us to understand
the medium better. We felt
the need of a school, where
we could learn the craft
and enter the film world
with preparation. But in
those days, no such schools
were there. And we had to
learn it through experience.
But now, there are schools
and institutes where the
craft of Film-making, acting
and other technical aspects
are being taught.The Kolkata
Film and Television Institute
is one of such place where
the aspiring film-makers,
actors, technicians are
comprehensively trained.

A film director
is a person who aspires to tell
a story through cinema. The journey
from the first through to actuality
is perhaps the most complicated
psychological as well as technical
process. A good director apart
from being a good visualiser needs
to have an excellent knowledge
of film technology. A film is
considered credible only when
there is a perfect balance between
creativity and technique. That
is good cinema.
